Fish Song
02:31
|
|||
a fish is caught
let him live or die
you bought the hook
you can cook up a lie
promulgator of the destiny of mankind
as much as i denied
you had a force upon me
a fish cannot decide
he must hold his breath
when the lout casts out his expensive net
this is where a lion was stoned to death
by sinners and liars deep in hell
this is the spot where a mountain once fell
and was tamed by a hand
and managed by a man
tamed by a man with a fishermans chance
he hides all his shame
spends his life behind a lucky aim
he writes your destiny on that day
but he is as good as a roach
with a castle and a moat
so long as youre lost
they are wrong
they have words for you
and places you belong
ignore them till they win
till they denounce your sins
and they catch you like a fish
on the day when they decide
whether youll finally live or die
and who owns the lake
who owns the ocean
who owns the power and the good devotion
who owns the lake
who owns the ocean
who owns the power and the right devotion
sinners and liars deep in hell
this is the spot where a mountain once fell
and was tamed by a hand
and managed by a man
tamed by a man with a fishermans chance
he hides all his shame
spends his life behind a lucky aim
he writes your destiny on that day
but he is as good as a roach
with a castle and a moat

A Real Dream Is...
04:55
|
|||
a real dream is:
can you contain a flame in a drop of rain?
i walk and roam
till my feet are stone
throwin life away like so much clay from a buried bone
till a hand from up the sky
and a glimmer in a great big tearing up eye!
im watching the waves on the riverside
in the dark blue light of a starless night
the water like smoke gliding over the stone
calling me its own
when in my life did i ever say the word wrong
the sky is dark but the river remains strong
those are the kisses of love
the tiny ones
fluttering everywhere
on your neck, on your shoulder
those were the kisses of love
and she brought you those
a real dream is:
can you contain a flame in a drop of rain?
it sure led me far away
like a strobe in the night
and i ran there, i ran there full tilt alright
cause im watching the waves on the riverside
in the dark blue light of a starless night
the water like smoke gliding over the stone
calling me its own
when in my life did i ever say the word wrong
the sky is dark but the river remains strong

Steely K Points
03:33
|
|||
i had two good reasons
one for my mother
one for the cracking whip
that got me crawling to the krait pit
i took an oath
and lied as best i could
using just those words of justice
like firewood
they had thirst and hunger
and i gave them ipecac
i sent them to their mothers
with stripes across their backs
the devil grinned
he still had my bare hand in his

Distemper
03:10
|
|||
lest we die
before we can understand
throw ourselves to the wind
like so much sand
catch the fire in our midst
or scatter across the land
thought id fly like an eagle once
so i jumped into the sky
but i became a ladybug
heaven lay about like the family dog
while we grew up
why did we grow up so?
what gave us a heart and a soul?
we gaze at the windowless wall
and we faint from heat stroke
dreams sometimes leave a residue
lasting forever
but we could not discover the truth
or could not remember
so we gaze at the windowless view
and catch distemper

Krait Pits
03:45
|
|||
falling naked through the air
power of the north wind brings me there
where all is one and come from dawn
cold and hardship holding on
in one vista come watching
large brimming eyes tear through the sky
with holy shards and searing stones
falling out of lightning passed through holy roads
bearing true as gold
where lightning points
rain pushes out
and the whole sky is pointing at me
well deep eyes let it free
let it fly all the way through walls to me
to roll with lightning leading me
where the earth is tightly holding me
thunder beating and stretching me
why is it keeping me
under the skies comely whiteness
when the sun goes easily
up through krait pits crawling toward an opening
where lightning points
rain pushes out
with deep eyes scanning over me

Fainter
01:54
|
|||
im one of them fainters in the world
with my blood ice cold
and my lips two burning coals
on the first day i fought to get out
from under my soul
my heart was a little white lamb
freed from a thicket
and slapped on a buttery frying pan
felt id love a big white snake
laid my kisses on its hugs till i was blue in the face
but she didnt kill me and i didnt die
though i would have gone brightly
closed my eyes and the golden light kept flying
though it couldnt ever again fly rightly
im a fainter
my knees are all stoney and strong
from all the praying and kneeling ive done
from all the hoping and fainting ive done
thought id try and love a star
or id be good as moss or granite on a beach
and that my love might take me up there
but im not a drop of rain
who gets directly to the sea
i started out uneasy and unfree
and climbed a beam of light
like a knife down in the night
i had a year of darkness
and then one dawn
well i fainted when we kissed
and broke my lips

Fish in the Lake
02:41
|
|||
to those who wait
double success
those who wont
have a triple threat
just reign yourself in
reign yourself in
oh and you will win
may lay on the dawn like a canoe
may go nearer the sun than i could do
but your love is not the truth
your love you lie to
to keep up the weak
who want to sleep
cut through
like I say you must do
or put the sun down forever
like you told your mama youd never
but you get weak
in the break of dawn
what did you see in the bite of dawn?
in the stars i saw nothin
and nothin in the deep heart
you see all those stars
are just laughing at you from afar
its morning time already
morning time at the doorway
deep heart: tell him what to say
fish in the lake
theres a promise i need to break
a lifetime of skin and dread
i need to shed
fish in the lake
theres a promise i need to break
its been biting my cheek
like a poisonous snake
fish in the lake
theres a promise i need to break
im too much weak
put me down a lightning streak

Unknown Provenance
03:22
|
|||
inchoate stars
sharp as knives
shards of tumbling stone
of unknown provenance
rolling through
often cut the quick
and blood spills in the mix
made hale by fear and anger
the more ulcerous the better
for cold things sharpened
and hard things made strong
the pillars in your life
the scaffold catching all that raining brimstone
from ruptures in that sky
which are leaking beams of light
are the only saviours man can try
escape this world
be vigilant or die
keep rough your soul
throw the world down a hole
in the kiln
bake it til it cant hold onto its skin
take stock
of all you have earned by stars
draw no line inside your heart
make no limit in the art of living
dying
bearing
and killing

Desert Tope
02:38
|
|||
on the stairs to hell
you descend with molten lips
kissing every step
clutching the rails
like a lovers hips
diggin up the earth
for a frozen pearl of rain
for a golden ring
round the fang
writhing like a white snake
wrap around a neck
or float down like a snowflake
melting on a breast
remember when
back then
before you lost your decades
to vitiation
pure as rain
you blamed and called out in the air
your devils name
now hear him sing we own the man
yielding freely
to our pickaxe hands
smiles opened wide
vision grew
to skunk drunk eyes of crescent moons
your brother knows
retrain your soul
in a balance of power
on his old sunlit road
your bullrings clanging
trade them for an ocean
with a lilypad bed
horns all a-broken
but the hand of light
is paying your price
with its encroaching ice
of abnegation
shark tooth clouds are gleaming in the sun
with their lightning tongues digging graves in the mud
goodnight wonder
goodnight question
you didnt know what you were doing
with that goodly ruin
remember when
you cut the rope
to spend all your days
in a desert tope
or crawling through great wastes of space
laughing in privations face
hoping like a cinder hopes
having no doubt
burning up
is the only way out
