lyrics

in the desert there are no trees
there is no water
there are no greens

but the camel is a brute
designed to walk through
and i am guiding

there is no other person
so i sing in his ear

'The desert came before the sea, so i start with the desert'

'i find a rock and sit
camel, you wait for me
while i am thirsty'

the angel came with his pure will which was a scimitar in his hand
his eyes were the tips of a flame
his nostrils two tunneling winds
his mouth the knife of a wave
and his beard root-laden earth

he said "the camel is a brute on which you move through the desert
beyond the desert is the sea
beyond the sea is the desert
god is the desert beyond the sea"

"look at the sand, understand?
now look in the eyes of the camel"

"the light shines into your eyes, and you want to block the light?
you want god in your mind?"

"soil, flesh, water, light; are the gifts of your mother
keep the path or blow it away in the wind, did you want an oasis outside life?"

he said "you are in trouble now, boil it and drink it
if life weren't all thunder and lighting, what would you want with it?"

"spirit gives no kisses, so what do you want with it?
pray to god that you might never die"

"you want to be the sand, asleep on the motherland...
but understand:
sand cannot be saved!
sand cannot be saved!
sand cannot be saved!"

clouds clear slowly and circling by is a vulture against the light blue sky
singing 'eating flesh is my paradise'
